The Study Well Pilot Project
Affordable Naturopathic Care Program For University and College Students
University and young adulthood can be a really tough time for a lot of us, especially in the mental health department. Situational triggers like moving away from home, financial pressures, feeling isolated, cooking for ourselves, juggling classes / homework / extracurriculars and more, all while swimming through mountains of self doubt while trying to figure out what we want to do with our lives is HARD. Spending hours siting in chairs, hunched over studying or lugging books back and forth between classes can aggravate our physical health, causing headaches or back, neck & knee pain that disrupts our focus and sleep.
Young adulthood also happens to be the prime time for our body and our mental health to begin changing in ways that are disconcerting and sometimes frightening. Symptoms of hormonal changes, sleep disruption, weight gain, food cravings, fatigue & brain fog, depression and extreme anxiety can begin to creep in and take over our previously healthy body.
Having been a student up until my late 20’s, I can vividly remember how my mental health suffered during this time, and along with it, my physical health. It felt like I was on a rollercoaster and no matter how badly I wanted to, I couldn’t get off.
Firstly, what is Naturopathic Medicine and How Can It Support Student’s Physical & Mental Wellbeing?
Naturopathic Medicine is a field of medical professionals that are focused on optimal health, that is, feeling and thinking as well as you can. Trained for 4 years in accredited naturopathic medical colleges (post a 3 or 4 year university degree), we are pros at creating natural treatment solutions for complex disease processes. Natural treatment involves dietary changes, acupuncture protocols, natural supplements, lifestyle changes and most importantly, spending quality one-on-one time with our patients to truly understand how to help them change their life as an individual.
Our services are best used alongside the conventional medical system. I personally write many a letter to Family Doctor’s and specialists, discussing my treatment, lab findings and next steps about a patient’s health plan to ensure the network of professionals are on similar pages.
What This Clinic Is Offering To Make Naturopathic Medical Care More Accessible For the Students that Need It Most
Many university health care insurance plans offer a small amount of coverage of naturopathic services for students, often around $200 - $300 per school year. This amount may only cover the Initial Visit of many Toronto Naturopathic Doctors. If a student is not eligible for coverage under a parent’s insurance plan, this can make regular accessible care very tough. The key to making sustainable, individualized healthy changes is consistent follow up care with a caring professional. This is a tall order to accomplish in a single visit.
So we have created the Naturopathic Mental Health Program for University and College Students to support our student patients over 4 - 5 visits throughout the school year.
This program may be for you if you meet the following criteria:
Are a Full-Time Student in a College or University program and have a valid student card

another mental health concern (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, ocd etc)
